A meeting between the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and striking judiciary workers has ended in a deadlock.

The workers, who embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday over poor welfare and the government’s failure to grant financial autonomy to the judiciary, met with the governor on Thursday.

However, after the meeting, the striking workers vowed to continue the indefinite strike until all their demands are met.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, described by aggrieved judicial officers as an “ungrateful beneficiary of the judiciary,” had earlier held talks with leaders of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) and other judicial stakeholders.

The move, however, collapsed as magistrates, Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts, and JUSUN leaders unanimously rejected what they described as half-measures and empty assurances.

“At the end of the meeting, our position was clear: no financial autonomy, no work,” a top member, who preferred not to be named, said.

The development has further deepened the crisis that has paralysed court activities across Ondo State, exposing what critics describe as the Aiyedatiwa administration’s habitual disregard for the rule of law and institutional independence.

Since Monday, the Ondo State judiciary has effectively ceased to function, with courts under lock and key.

The Coalition of Magistrates, Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts, and Legal Research Officers in Ondo State are currently on an indefinite strike.

The strike action worsened on Tuesday with members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) joining the action.
