Air peace Nigeria Limited, a prominent airline based at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, has come under fire following allegations of blacklisting Maxwell Chibuike Opara Esq., an Abuja-based legal practitioner and human rights activist, without valid cause.

In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Airpeace Nigeria Limited, Opara expressed his deep concern and trauma over the airline’s alleged illegal act of blacklisting him. Opara claims that he was informed by his travel agent that Airpeace had blacklisted him when attempting to book a flight on April 8, 2024.

Opara asserts that he has not contravened any rules or regulations set forth by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) that would warrant such administrative actions by Airpeace. He also mentioned previous legal matters he had instituted against the airline for unlawful cancellation of his flights without notice, in which the court found merit in his claims and ruled in his favor.

The legal practitioner emphasized that before approaching the court for each case, he had written letters of complaint and pre-action notices to Airpeace, which went unanswered, forcing him to seek legal redress.

Opara has given Airpeace a 48-hour ultimatum to provide a satisfactory explanation backed by the rules and regulations for blacklisting him. Failure to do so, he states, will compel him to seek legal redress in a court of law without further notice.

The letter has been copied to the Honorable Minister of Aviation and the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for their attention and intervention.
