A new digital platform allowing members of the public to search marriage and divorce records has been launched in Ghana.

Known as Marrify, the privately operated platform was launched in Accra on August 28, 2026, by Marry Right Ghana Limited in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Marrify serves as a publicly searchable registry covering ordinance, customary and Islamic marriages, as well as registered divorce and annulment records.
Users can conduct searches using the names of either spouse, towns, churches, denominations, marriage certificate numbers, court case numbers and Ghana Gazette numbers.
The platform also contains registers of marriage officers appointed and gazetted to solemnise ordinance marriages, licensed marriage venues and Imams authorised to officiate Islamic marriages.
Its records are drawn from the Registrar-General’s Department, courts, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and publications in the Ghana Gazette.
Speaking during the launch, Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, urged prospective couples to verify the marital status of their partners, as well as the legal standing of their chosen venues and marriage officiants.
“It is a reminder of the need to uphold the highest standard of integrity and accountability,” she said.
“You would not have to take a person’s word for it, even in the most trusted relationship. You can verify with this app.”
The minister said prospective couples should confirm the status of their intended spouses, the authority of their marriage officiants and whether their chosen venues are licensed before proceeding with a marriage.
She urged Marry Right Ghana to collaborate with government institutions, religious organisations, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that information available on the platform remains accurate and regularly updated.
Marrify’s divorce registry is based on court rulings and judgments, with some divorce records linked to the marriages to which they relate.
The platform also permits individuals, courts, religious bodies and other institutions to submit missing marriage or divorce records with supporting documents for verification.
However, Marrify cautioned that records were still being uploaded in stages. It warned that the absence of a person’s name or marriage certificate from a search result should not be treated as conclusive proof that the person has never been married.
