The Council of Chairmen of the Students’ Representative Councils (SRC) of the Nigerian Law School, on Wednesday, issued a strong-worded statement condemning the recent abduction of six students from the Yola Campus of the institution.

The victims Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obiorah Davi, and Obalem Emmanuel were reportedly kidnapped along the Benue highway on Saturday, July 26, 2025, while returning to school.

In a letter addressed to all relevant security agencies in the country, the SRC Chairmen described the abduction as a “criminal assault on innocent students and an attack on the future of Nigeria’s legal profession.”

“This is not merely a security issue it is a national emergency,” the statement read. “The life of every Nigerian Law School student is now a test of the State’s capacity to safeguard its youth and future leaders.”

The students’ leaders called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and military authorities to deploy coordinated rescue operations, using “every intelligence and tactical tool necessary” to ensure the safe and immediate release of their abducted colleagues.

The Council also demanded:

  1. Public accountability and regular updates from security agencies;
  2. Swift prosecution of the perpetrators upon arrest;
  3. A comprehensive student protection strategy for road travel across Nigeria.

“We stand in unbreakable solidarity with the victims and their families,” the statement declared. “Justice must not be delayed. Action must not be theoretical. Lives are at stake.”

The letter was signed by the SRC Chairmen from all campuses Abuja (Headquarters), Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Yola, and Kano and was copied to the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the DSS, Nigerian Law School Management, the Minister of Justice, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, and National Assembly Committees on Security and Legal Education.
