Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yakubu Philemon, SAN, has congratulated the leadership and members of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Abuja Branch, popularly known as the Unity Bar, on the successful completion of its 2026 Law Week.

In a congratulatory message, Philemon commended the administration of Mr. Steve O. Emelieze, Esq., for organising what he described as a highly successful and impactful Law Week.

He said the theme of the event, “Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democratic Process,” was timely and relevant, especially as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the conversations generated during the Law Week came at an important period in the nation’s democratic journey.

“The theme of this year’s Law Week, ‘Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democratic Process,’ was exceptionally timely. As our nation prepares for the upcoming 2027 general elections, the conversations sparked during this event could not have come at a better time,” he said.

Philemon also praised the branch leadership for assembling a distinguished faculty of speakers who, according to him, handled their sessions with intellectual depth and offered stimulating and enlightening insights.

He noted that one of the major takeaways from the event was the call on politicians to prioritise the welfare of citizens and place the people at the centre of public policy.

He also highlighted the significant role lawyers must continue to play in protecting democratic values, strengthening institutions and promoting good governance.

“Their collective call for politicians to prioritise the citizenry and place the people at the centre of public policy, as well as the significant roles played by lawyers, are vital takeaways that must resonate beyond the halls of this Law Week,” he added.

Philemon further applauded the Executive Committee and the Planning Committee of the NBA Abuja Branch for delivering what he described as a benchmark event.

“Kudos to the Executive Committee and the Planning Committee for delivering a benchmark event,” he stated.
