According to judicial sources, concerned lawyers, human right activists and other stakeholders in the justice sector are now floating petitions, calling on Kano state government to appoint a substantive chief judge for the state. The petitioners are alleging that the stoppage by the state government to appoint a substantive chief judge has resulted into the current sluggish process in the justice sector in the state. The petition filed by a sizeable number of private legal practitioners in the state, said, the acting chief judge is handicapped, the present situation has rendered him technically handicapped. The lawyers lamented that the acting chief judge is operating at the mercy of the state Executive, adding that, the acting chief judge is now a victim of insubordination. The Nigerialawyer gathered that the state government is cautious over the appointment of a substantive chief judge, the state government is observing vigilance on the matter, owing to a petition filed before the National Judicial Council, NJC in connection with the office of the state chief judge, the outcome of the petition, the state government does not intend to preempt, an impeccable source disclosed. A renown Kano based legal practitioner and human right activist, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the development, he said the there is apprehension in the justice system in the state “i am one of the petitioners” he said.]]>
