The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Edo State Branch, has announced its 2025 Law Week, scheduled from November 19 to 21, featuring a keynote address by Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch.

Speaking on the theme, “Women in Leadership and Political Positions: The Audacity to Hope,” Akangbe is expected to explore the challenges limiting meaningful female representation and discuss pathways to greater inclusion and impact.

The three-day event promises a series of engaging activities:

  • Day 1 (Wednesday, November 19): Advocacy Walk on Drug Abuse, in collaboration with Oredo Local Government, starting at 9:00 a.m. from the NBA Bar House.
  • Day 2 (Thursday, November 20): Public Lecture at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA Hall), focusing on cultural and societal barriers to female leadership, alongside the keynote address by Akangbe.
  • Day 3 (Friday, November 21): Annual General Meeting at the NBA Bar House at 1:00 p.m., followed by a social hangout to celebrate the week’s engagements.

Princess Francisca Elema, Esq., Chairperson of FIDA Edo, emphasized that the Law Week will feature thought-provoking discussions aimed at elevating the bar on women’s leadership and political participation.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, in his invitation, expressed delight at being part of the initiative, noting that the event would provide a platform to encourage women to pursue leadership roles with courage and determination.

The FIDA Edo Law Week 2025 is expected to attract legal practitioners, policymakers, and students, with sessions designed to spark conversation and sustained advocacy for transformative leadership.
