The Lagos State Government has revealed a disturbing trend of increasing domestic violence against men by their wives.

According to the state’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), over 340 cases of husbands being beaten by their wives were recorded in Lagos between September 2022 and July 2023.

DSVA Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, expressed concern over the worrying development in the agency’s latest quarterly report. She said DSVA is handling the cases to find amicable resolutions.

This surprising revelation highlights the often overlooked issue of domestic violence against men. While women remain disproportionately affected, male victimization in marriages is now gaining more attention in Lagos.

In related news, the state government has commenced monitoring implementation of its Executive Order on Safeguarding and Child Protection in schools. A Joint Task Force visited over 200 schools across Lagos to assess compliance levels.

The exercise aims to ensure schools adopt measures to guarantee a safe learning environment for students. With disturbing cases of student abuse, the assessments will identify areas needing improvement in child safeguarding.

Stakeholders emphasized that the monitoring is not meant to punish but rather correct and strengthen protection systems in Lagos schools. The proactive move underscores the government’s commitment to student welfare and rights.
