The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has directed its members in 14 states to join the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) starting at midnight on Sunday, December 2, 2024.

The strike action is in response to the failure of the affected state governments to implement the new National Minimum Wage.

In a circular released on November 30, 2024, the Acting General Secretary of JUSUN, M.J. Akwashiki, stated that the decision to join the strike was made by the Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC. The circular listed the affected states as Abia, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Imo, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.

The Vice Presidents of JUSUN in the affected states are expected to ensure compliance with the strike directive. The circular was signed by the Acting General Secretary, M.J. Akwashiki, and the President of JUSUN, Marwan Mustapha Adamu.

The strike action is expected to have a significant impact on the judiciary system in the affected states, as court proceedings and other related activities may be disrupted. The NLC has been in negotiations with the government to ensure the implementation of the new minimum wage across all states, but some state governments have yet to comply with the directive.

The strike action is set to continue until the demands of the NLC and its affiliated unions, including JUSUN, are met by the affected state governments.
