*Exposes Student Who Doctored 203 Score To Claim 326 In Viral Social Media Post

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates affected by technical glitches in six states, including the five South-East states and Lagos.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, JAMB clarified that contrary to circulating claims, no high scores were recorded in the cancelled sessions. According to the Board, an overwhelming 99% of candidates in the affected areas scored below 200, with only a few scoring up to 217, effectively debunking speculation that some top scorers might be lobbying to retain their voided results.

“The misleading questions posed by certain individuals regarding candidates who allegedly scored highly in the cancelled sessions are totally unfounded,” JAMB said. “Only a handful scored up to 217 in the affected sessions, while 99% scored below 200.”

The Board added that it was compelled to issue the clarification due to misinformation and attempts by “opportunistic and mischievous individuals” to exploit the situation and discredit the examination process.

One such case cited involved a student, Mr. Olisa Gabriel Chukwuemeka of Adekunle Ajasin University, who falsely claimed on social media to have scored 326 in the 2025 UTME. Investigations revealed that he had doctored his 2024 score of 203 and misrepresented it as a new result. His actual 2025 score in Lagos was 180 before it was withdrawn. Following the exposure, he reportedly deactivated his social media account.

JAMB further disclosed that all results have now been released, except those involving examination infractions or candidates scheduled for mop-up exams. Candidates with previously released results need not recheck, as those whose results are affected by withdrawals will be notified via SMS, their JAMB profiles, and email.

The Board emphasized that it does not profit from the N50 text charge associated with checking results via its shortcodes (55019/66019), stressing that the system was introduced to protect candidate data and reduce cybercafé exploitation.

Widespread Fraud and High-Tech Malpractices Uncovered

JAMB raised alarms over growing levels of sophisticated examination malpractice, which it says jeopardizes the future of Nigeria’s education system. The Board revealed that over 3,000 candidates have so far been identified as participants or beneficiaries of coordinated exam fraud.

“These unwholesome practices include collusion between some CBT centre operators and school proprietors to hack networks, remotely control candidate computers, and submit answers to local servers,” the statement said.

Other advanced malpractices discovered include:

  • Use of AI-enabled photo blending to aid impersonation;
  • Registration using combined fingerprints from multiple individuals;
  • Extending Local Area Networks (LAN) to external “strong rooms”;
  • Pairing candidates with hired mercenaries who register as UTME candidates to infiltrate exam halls.

The Board confirmed that all implicated candidates will have their results withdrawn as investigations continue.

JAMB thanked Nigeria’s security agencies for their role in uncovering fraud rings and arresting suspects. It also appreciated the cooperation of WAEC, Ahmadu Bello University, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and NECO for adjusting their exam schedules to accommodate the resit.

The Board concluded by acknowledging the resilience of affected candidates and reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, and continuous improvement of Nigeria’s examination system.
