Jake Paul has revealed he cannot eat solid food for a week after undergoing surgery to repair a double jaw fracture sustained during his knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua in their Netflix super-fight in Miami.

The 28-year-old American drove himself to hospital after being knocked out by the British heavyweight in the sixth round at the Kaseya Center on Friday night.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Paul shared an update on his condition following the surgical procedure.

“Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love. Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days,” he wrote.

Paul also thanked the medical team at Miami University Hospital for their care.

“[Shout-out] to the amazing team at Miami University hospital. Everyone was so gracious and caring. [Neurosurgeon] @ArmaniiJayy took amazing care of me with [surgery resident] @iam_loriv,” he added.

The former YouTuber-turned-boxer shared an X-ray image that showed his jaw was broken in two different places following the brutal knockout.

Paul had revealed the suspected injury immediately after the fight while conducting a post-fight interview inside the ring, spitting blood as he spoke.

“I think my jaw is broken, by the way. It’s definitely broke,” he told reporters ringside.

Paul was floored four times during the contest as he tried to dance around Joshua’s attacks before the fight was finally put to bed in the sixth round.

The American struggled for the first four rounds, repeatedly hitting the canvas, before Joshua turned up the pressure in the fifth round with two knockdowns.

In the sixth round, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion ended the bout with a crushing right hand.

Paul has been automatically suspended from boxing for 60 days under Florida Athletic Commission rules, which mandate that boxers who have been knocked out must be banned from competition for at least that period.

Should the knockout be considered particularly brutal, this number could be extended.

Despite the punishment he absorbed and the serious injury, Paul struck a notably upbeat tone in his post-fight comments.

“I’m feeling good. That was fun,” Paul said. “I love this sport. I gave it my all. It’s fucking crazy. I had a blast. Anthony’s a great fighter. I got my ass beat, but that’s what this sport’s about.”

He added: “A nice little ass-whipping from one of the best to ever do it. I love this shit and I’m going to come back and keep on winning.”

Paul insisted he has no plans to give up his boxing career despite the brutal defeat.

“Man, I’ve already won in every single way in life. My family, my beautiful fiancée [Dutch speedskating star Jutta Leerdam]. This sport has helped me so much in my life. I’m going to come back and get a world championship belt at some point,” he declared.

Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s co-founder at Most Valuable Promotions, confirmed at the post-fight press conference that the injury was being assessed but played down long-term concerns.

“We think he broke his jaw. He’s fine,” Bidarian said. “We met with Netflix afterwards. He took a shower, he drove himself to the hospital. A broken jaw is very common in sports, particularly in boxing and MMA, and I think the recovery time from the doctors and surgeons we already talked to is four to six weeks.”

Anthony Joshua wasted little time turning the page from spectacle to ambition, calling out Tyson Fury moments after stopping Paul.

“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua admitted. “The end goal was to get Jake Paul, pin him down and hurt him. That has been the request leading up, and that’s what was on my mind. It took a bit longer than expected, but the right hand finally found the destination.”

Joshua acknowledged Paul’s resilience after a fight in which the American was repeatedly floored but kept rising.

“Jake Paul, he’s done really well tonight. I want to give him his props. He got up time and time again. It was difficult in there for him, but he kept on trying to find a way. It takes a real man to do that. Anyone who laces up these gloves, we always say we give them our respect. We have to give Jake his respect for trying and trying and trying. Well done,” Joshua said.

However, Joshua was unequivocal about the hierarchy the fight reinforced and quickly sharpened his focus into a challenge aimed directly at Fury.

“He came up against a real fighter tonight that’s had a 15-month layoff. We shook off the cobwebs, and I can’t wait to roll into 2026,” Joshua said.

“If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight one of the realest fighters out there that will take on any challenge, step into the ring with me next if you’re a real bad boy. Don’t do all that talking: ‘AJ this, AJ that’. Let’s see you in the ring and talk with your fists,” he challenged.

The Netflix-backed bout was billed as a £200 million global event, bringing together the former two-time unified heavyweight champion and the YouTuber-turned-boxer in one of the most talked-about fights in recent boxing history.

For Joshua, the message was simple: the experiment was over, the hierarchy restored, and attention now turned firmly toward unfinished business at the top of boxing’s glamour division.

For Paul, despite the brutal defeat and broken jaw, the night represented another step in what he frames as a longer journey toward eventually winning a world championship belt.

The 28-year-old will now spend the next week consuming only liquids as his jaw heals from the double fracture, with doctors estimating a recovery time of four to six weeks before he can resume normal activities.

However, with the mandatory 60-day boxing suspension in place, Paul will have ample time to recover before he can return to the ring to pursue his stated goal of becoming a world champion.
