The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has attributed the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to what it described as a computer error.

The party said it had contacted INEC over the development and was assured that the omission would be corrected, with a revised list containing Gwarzo’s name expected to be released by Monday.

The NDC Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Yusif Fasaha, disclosed this in a statement, urging members and supporters of the party to remain calm while consultations with the electoral commission continued.

“I want to assure you that as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.

“We have consulted the INEC and they told us that the problem was from computer, and they will rectify it.

“So, everybody should remain calm; as from now to Monday, another list containing his name will be out,” Fasaha said.

The party spokesman maintained that Gwarzo had fulfilled the requirements for participation in the governorship election and that all necessary processes relating to his candidature were completed within the stipulated period.

“We have seen the list and will continue with consultation on the matter,” he added.

Gwarzo, a former deputy governor of Kano State, is the NDC governorship candidate and an ally of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

His absence from INEC’s final list of governorship candidates had raised questions over the status of the NDC ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

The NDC, however, said it was confident that the matter would be resolved following its engagement with INEC.

The final list released by the electoral commission contained 17 governorship candidates and their running mates.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was listed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside his running mate, Murtala Sule-Garo.

Other political parties represented on the list include the African Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Boot Party, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, Labour Party, Zenith Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, Allied Peoples Movement, New Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Action Peoples Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance and Action Democratic Party.

INEC’s published list did not state the reason for Gwarzo’s omission, while the explanation that it resulted from a computer error was attributed by the NDC to its consultations with the commission.
