The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that online pre-registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has reached 3,544,850.
The commission, in a statement by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, noted that this figure was achieved after three weeks since the resumption of the exercise.
INEC also condemned attempts by some individuals to encourage underage Nigerians to participate in the exercise. According to the data, female participants lead the figures, with 1,834,917 (51.76%), while males accounted for 1,709,933 (48.24%).
The statement reads: “In continuation of our weekly update on the ongoing nationwide voter registration, the commission is pleased to publish the data at the end of the third week of online pre-registration and the second week of the physical (in-person) option.
“As of Sunday, September 7, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have pre-registered online in three weeks since the commencement of the exercise on August 18, 2025. The breakdown shows that 1,709,933 (48.24%) are males and 1,834,917 (51.76%) are females. In terms of age and occupation, the majority—2,291,809 (64.65%)—are between 18 and 34 years old, while 882,441 (24.89%) are students.”
The commission also provided an update on completed physical registration, noting: “From this week, we will present combined figures of online pre-registration and in-person registration in a single graphic. The cumulative figure since the in-person registration commenced on August 25 is 288,614 as of Thursday, September 4, with 132,634 (45.96%) males and 155,980 (54.04%) females. In terms of age and occupation, 215,414 (74.64%) are between 18 and 34, while 114,150 (39.55%) are students.”
INEC added that detailed registration data by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been uploaded to its website and other official platforms for public information.
While expressing appreciation for citizen participation, INEC reiterated that voter registration is only open to citizens aged 18 or older at the time of registration. “It is illegal to encourage underage registration or for anyone below 18 years of age to register in anticipation of attaining voting age by the 2027 general election,” the commission warned.
