The Ogun State Police Command has placed a N2.5m bounty on the hoodlums who burnt the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Iyana Mortuary, in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.

The INEC office was set ablaze on November 10, 2022.

A source said the hoodlums sneaked into the premises at night with loaves of bread soaked in petrol, which they threw into different parts of the building and set it on fire.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Monday, said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to commence investigation with a view to unravelling the arsonists.

He added, “In furtherance of the directive to get to the root of the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice, the command has resolved to reward anybody with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators with the sum of N2.5m.

“In view of this, any member of the public with useful information that will assist the command should come forward, and rest assured that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra has denied reports that it was responsible for the attack on the INEC office in Imo State.

The group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Monday, claimed that security agents were behind the attacks on public facilities and communities in the South-East to cast it and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network, in bad light.
