Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.

The announcement, contained in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, follows the formal upgrade of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Medical Section into a full-fledged directorate  a major step aimed at enhancing access to quality healthcare for police personnel and their families nationwide.

According to Hundeyin, the creation of the directorate is part of ongoing reforms under Egbetokun’s leadership to improve officers’ welfare and institutional capacity within the Force.

Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze on her appointment and urged her to bring her extensive medical and administrative experience to bear in building a modern, world-class healthcare system for the Nigeria Police.

“AIG Nkechi Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator who brings over 27 years of exemplary service to her new role,” the statement said. “She has consistently demonstrated professionalism and dedication to the medical welfare of police personnel.”

Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and hailing from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.

Over the years, she has served in various capacities across Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Lagos, where she contributed immensely to the development of police medical infrastructure and the welfare of officers.

Egbetokun described the establishment of the Force Medical Services Directorate as a strategic move to boost the well-being, morale, and productivity of police personnel across the country. He emphasized that a strong healthcare system is crucial to maintaining operational readiness and professionalism within the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring that officers at all levels have access to quality medical care,” the IGP added. “A healthy police workforce is essential to national security and effective law enforcement.”
