The Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, has enjoined the 2022/2023 Law graduates of the University to go into the Law School and surpass the feat achieved by their predecessors.

He said that the Oba Erediauwa College of Law is a flagship of the Igbinedion University which was established at the inception of the institution in 1999, adding that the college has consistently maintained a commendable profile of excellence in all ramifications.

Prof. Ezemonye stated this on Saturday in Okada during the valedictory ceremony and Public Lecture for the 2022/2023 graduating Law students.

The Vice Chancellor of the first Premier Private University in Nigeria, disclosed that the Igbinedion University has produced more than 3,000 law graduates since its establishment in 1999.

According to Ezemonye, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ralf Adeghe, said these graduates are excelling in their various callings with some becoming Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

“As it stands, the University has equipped you sufficiently well with knowledge and skills to face the future with confidence.

“Therefore, the challenge before you, the graduating law students, is to go to the Law School not only to replicate and surpass your performance at the College, but also to stand out from the crowd as your predecessors have done.

“The University’s commitment to academic excellence remains on course. We have escalated our internationalization programme as a platform for knowledge exchange, research and development.

“Our Master Classes are up and running through the injection of industry experts in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” he said.

Earlier in his address, Prof. Osaretin Izevbuwa, Dean, Oba Erediauwa College of Law of the university called for building of more law schools in the country to accommodate graduates that are produced yearly.

This, he said, would enhance the delivery of the justice system in the country.

Izevbuwa said the present quota of the university at the Nigerian Law School was 100, but noted that the management was leaving no stone unturned in securing more spaces.

The Dean urged the graduates to follow the standards at the law school and be good ambassadors of the institution while furthering their academic engagements.

Delivering the public lecture titled; “Professionally Development and Continuing Legal Education”, Afam Osigwe, SAN, advised the graduands to narrow their interest to a particular area as they proceed to law school.

Osigwe said the legal profession was very competitive and only those who stand out could excel in the field.

He stressed the need for them to network with persons who would challenge them and improve their knowledge in the school.
