Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has challenged governors and other members of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council to take responsibility for securing their respective states for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that political appointments within the campaign structure must translate into electoral results.

Wike spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he was named coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

The former Rivers State governor said members of the campaign council should not rely on an eventual nationwide victory for the President to claim collective success if they failed to secure their own states.

“If you don’t deliver your state and the President wins, don’t say we have won. It is not a question of I am chairman of this, I am secretary of this, I am a member of this,” Wike said.

He maintained that every governor, coordinator and campaign official should be assessed by the electoral support generated within the territory assigned to them.

Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party but serves as FCT Minister in Tinubu’s administration, pledged to mobilise support for the President in both Rivers State and the FCT.

He said he was pleased to have been assigned responsibility for the two areas, declaring that his task was clear.

“Simple, there is no too much work for me. It’s Rivers and FCT, and let me say and pledge, by the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That is my job,” he said.

Wike further declared: “Rivers and FCT, it is taken. I challenge any area council that can say they don’t see the presence of Mr President.”

According to him, projects being executed by the Tinubu administration in the Federal Capital Territory provide a basis on which campaign officials can approach residents for support.

He said he had already communicated the same message to chairmen of the FCT area councils, stressing that the campaign should be built around what the administration had delivered rather than the titles held by those appointed to the campaign structure.

Extending his challenge beyond Rivers and the FCT, Wike recalled telling the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, that campaign leaders in Lagos should equally be held responsible for the outcome in the state.

“If you don’t win in Lagos, don’t say we have won,” he said.

His remarks amounted to a call for individual accountability among members of the campaign council, with governors and coordinators expected to demonstrate their contribution through results in their respective states and territories.

The FCT Minister’s declaration came as the ruling party formally activated its campaign structure for Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 polls.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke was also among those present at the inauguration and pledged to begin work towards the President’s re-election campaign.

Wike’s comments placed particular emphasis on state-by-state performance, with the minister maintaining that a national victory should not become a basis for campaign officials who lose their own jurisdictions to claim equal credit for the outcome.

For his part, Wike said responsibility for Rivers State and the FCT was one he was prepared to accept, reiterating his commitment to mobilising voters in both areas for Tinubu in 2027.
