Former Anambra Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Rural Development Mr. Bonaventure Enemali has dismissed alleged land speculations, racketeering and double-dealings in the state’s land allocation under his stewardship.

He also debunked claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was dealing with land cases involving him.

Addressing reporters at the weekend in Awka, Enemali, who has declared intention to run for Anambra West State Constituency, said his records as commissioner remained unblemished and would be difficult to beat.

He said: “When I moved to the Ministry of Lands, Physical Planning and Rural Development, there were controversies here and there because the operations then were not digitalised. So the cases of missing files or paper and double allocation of plots were rampant.

“But since I came to the ministry till I left, the level of double allocation has reduced to 30 per cent.

“Because we have restored sanity and confidence to the state’s system, people now have the confidence to pay money for government land, for processing of their title documents.

“Once they pay money, we process their Certificate of Ownership and it will come out.

“The information available to me shows that since the creation of Anambra State, the Ministry of Lands has not generated the kind of amount we rake in for the state government as Internally Generated Revenue per year.”

Enemali added: “There is no land case with the EFCC that I am a party to. Rather, individuals contesting land ownership come to us to provide information on the land.

“For instance, if you are having land issues with someone involving the EFCC, the commission will write the Ministry of Lands to tell them the status of the land and sometimes they invite me as the commissioner to tell them what we have in our own report concerning the land in dispute. Once I provide them with the information they need, I will go.

“The same thing also applies to the police, who call on us from time to time to provide them with necessary information on the land cases they are handling. So, it’s erroneous for someone to presume that because AIG Zone 13 invited me to his office to brief him on a land case, I was involved in it.”

He hoped that the legislative chambers would offer him opportunity to address challenges of development backwardness in Anambra West.
