In a stunning pre-election twist less than 72 hours before the Federal Capital Territory Area Council polls, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, has announced his withdrawal from the race and thrown his support behind All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa.

The decision, finalized on Wednesday at a bipartisan stakeholders’ meeting in Bwari, came following the direct intervention of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and is set to significantly reshape the contest ahead of the February 21 elections.

Addressing supporters and party stakeholders, Adamu said his move was aimed at preserving peace in the council area and maintaining unity among political allies.

“I have been in deep consultation with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike,” Adamu said. “Joshua and I are like brothers. It will not be right for us to fight each other over one office. Therefore, I am giving my support to Hon. Joshua.”

He urged his supporters to rally behind Musa to ensure a decisive outcome at the polls.

Speaking at the event, Wike endorsed the alliance and promised accelerated infrastructure projects in Bwari should the APC candidate win.

“If you vote for Joshua, I will do more roads in Bwari. Let nobody make any mistake. On Saturday, come out and make sure that Joshua wins the election,” the FCT Minister declared.

The move comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission wraps up preparations for elections across the six FCT area councils: Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali.
