The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) Oshodi community has been thrown into mourning after a drunk soldier, Corporal Abayomi Ebun, crushed the Finance Director, Brig-Gen. Audu Ogbole James to death.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening around Old Barracks while the senior officer was crossing the road.

The corporal, alleged to have been intoxicated, was said to be driving out of the barracks when he knocked down the senior officer who was walking to his residence within the barracks.’

Gen. James resumed duty at the centre barely two months ago following the retirement of his predecessor.

He was said to have been rushed to the hospital within the barracks but was declared dead by doctors on duty.

The corporal was arrested by the Provost for investigation.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Army 81 Division, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba confirmed the incident to The Nation, describing it as unfortunate.
