The escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has taken a dangerous turn, with energy infrastructure across the Gulf region now directly targeted, raising fears of a broader regional war and global energy disruption.

Iran launched missile attacks on Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, causing significant damage and fires. Although Qatari authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded and the fires were largely contained, the strikes affected multiple LNG installations and forced renewed concerns over global energy supply stability.

In response, Qatar strongly condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty and expelled Iranian military and security attaches, giving them 24 hours to leave the country. The Qatari government warned that Iran’s continued escalation risks dragging neutral countries deeper into the conflict.

Iran had earlier threatened to target oil and gas facilities across the Gulf, including sites in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in retaliation for Israeli strikes on its South Pars gas field. Saudi Arabia confirmed intercepting ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh and other regions, while the UAE said it neutralized multiple missiles and drones, though some debris caused limited damage to gas facilities. No casualties were reported in either country.

The crisis has also drawn global reactions. French President Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilian infrastructure, particularly energy and water facilities, emphasizing the need to protect essential services and prevent humanitarian fallout.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, threatening to destroy its South Pars gas field if further attacks occur, while also indicating that Israel would refrain from additional strikes on the facility. The U.S. is considering expanding its military involvement, with discussions underway about deploying additional troops, securing the Strait of Hormuz, and potentially targeting Iran’s strategic assets, including oil infrastructure and nuclear materials.

The Pentagon has reportedly requested $200 billion in funding for the war effort, as U.S. operations intensify. Since the conflict began, thousands of airstrikes have been carried out against Iranian military assets, with significant destruction reported.

The ongoing attacks have heightened fears of long-term disruptions to global LNG supply, particularly for Europe and Asia, which rely heavily on Qatari exports. Analysts warn that while immediate supply shocks may be limited due to prior production suspensions, prolonged instability could keep energy prices elevated and disproportionately affect developing economies.
