*Says JUSUN has assured that no more Judgements or Hearing Of Cases By Any Court.

The 1st Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, John Aikpokpo-Martins, has said that there is no new update on the ongoing strike of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, yet.

Aikpokpo-Martins, in an interview with TheNigeriaLawyer, said that as things are now, it is the governors that are holding everybody to ransom by failing to comply with the agreement they had with JUSUN.

“It is the governors that are holding everybody to ransom. They are yet to comply with the terms of the agreement. The agreement was very straightforward. They were supposed to have paid the monies due to the State judiciaries last week as agreed immediately upon receiving their shares of their Federal allocations. However, when they received the allocations, they didn’t pay as agreed and undertaken.” he said

According to him, the governors are saying that “we should wait for the last week of June when they will get another allocation from the federation account after the FAAC meeting. But the question is: if they entered into an agreement which implementation was to start this May and they failed to meet it, what guarantee do we now have that even in that June, they will also not renege?”

He said NBA is working very hard to make sure that the strike action is called off and that work resumes as soon as possible, whilst ensuring the objectives for the strike are also met.

He also said that he met with the executives of JUSUN today and conveyed the displeasure of the NBA over the opening of the Supreme Court and other courts for judgements to be delivered or cases to be conducted.

He noted that the JUSUN executives denied being complicit, and did not become aware of the breach of the strike action until when they heard of it from people and went there (the Supreme Court) to confirm it themselves.

They claimed that they have changed their men stationed at the court to enforce the strike action.

They, therefore, assured the NBA that such occurrence will not repeat itself again.
