The Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of the Nigerian Bar Association, Garki Branch (Liberty Bar), recently convened a strategic planning retreat to outline a comprehensive two-year roadmap for young legal practitioners’ development and advancement. The gathering, spearheaded by YLF Chairperson Zullaihat Muhammad Ohiare, marked a significant step toward fostering professional excellence within the branch.

In her keynote address, Chairperson Ohiare articulated a clear vision for the Forum’s future: “Our mission transcends individual ambitions. We are committed to empowering young lawyers through enhanced professional development, targeted skills acquisition, and meaningful mentorship opportunities. The interests of our young practitioners must remain paramount, superseding any personal or political considerations within the Branch. This sacred duty to the Young Lawyers Forum will guide our actions throughout our 18-month tenure.”

The retreat drew distinguished attendees, including NBA National Assistant Secretary Henry, who lauded the leadership’s strategic foresight. “This proactive approach to planning demonstrates a genuine commitment to excellence and reflects the caliber of leadership we aim to cultivate within the NBA,” he remarked.

Former YLF Chairperson and current Branch Publicity Secretary, Damilola Alabi, brought valuable insights to the proceedings. Drawing from her tenure, she emphasized that leadership positions serve as platforms for meaningful service. Alabi challenged the current executive committee to leverage their positions to create lasting, positive change within the legal community.

This pioneering retreat sets a new standard for YLF leadership across NBA branches. Under Chairperson Ohiare’s dynamic guidance, the Garki Branch YLF is positioned to emerge as a model of excellence and a catalyst for young lawyers’ professional advancement in Nigeria’s legal landscape,
