Anthony Joshua has flown home to England after being involved in a fatal car crash in which two people died. The British heavyweight boxer landed at London Stansted Airport on Friday night before being taken to his mansion to continue his recuperation, reports the Sun.

The funeral of his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is set to be held tomorrow at a mosque in London, it is claimed. Family and friends have been invited to a ‘janaza prayer service’ for the late pals.

Joshua is said to be undecided over whether to attend the funeral. There are fears his presence could result in a ‘circus’.

Joshua is said to have cheated death by swapping seats minutes before embarking on a journey which killed two of his friends. The fighter’s friends were killed in the fatal crash on Monday with the boxer taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of his car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and his lawyer revealed the twist of fate. “My client has pleaded not guilty and what happened was an accident, I haven’t had a full chance to speak with him yet but I know he is saying the brakes did not work,” Olalekan Abiodun told the Daily Mail.

“I also understand that the journey started in Lagos and that initially Anthony had got into the front seat but the driver asked him to swap seats. He did this because Anthony is a big fellow and he couldn’t see the wing mirror properly so he asked him to move and he sat behind the driver. From what I understand Latif was in front and then changed seats with Anthony.”

Kayode, 46, was driving Joshua and his friends in a black Lexus Jeep on Monday morning when he collided with a stationary truck parked on the side of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The driver was discharged from a hospital in Lagos late on New Year’s Eve and was reportedly taken two hours north to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.

It is believed that he was questioned for several hours and provided an official statement of what he said in the minutes leading up to the crash. Adeniyi’s case has been adjourned until January 20 for trial.

Joshua, meanwhile, visited a funeral home to pay his respects to Ghami and Ayodele after he was discharged from the hospital. The boxer was discharged from a hospital in Lagos to begin his recovery at his home in Nigeria.

First, he took his mother to visit the funeral home where the bodies of Ghami and Ayodele resided. The bodies were then repatriated to the United Kingdom.
