The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced the constitution of Branch Elections Appeal Committees and the Sections Elections Appeal Committee pursuant to Section 14 of the NBA Constitution. The announcement was made by NBA President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN.

The committees are empowered to entertain and resolve complaints and petitions regarding branch and sections elections respectively. They can also provide directions and interpretations to guide the conduct of the elections, including determining the qualification or disqualification of candidates.
Three Branch Elections Appeal Committees have been constituted for the East, North and West regions:
East Committee:
– Chairman: Ndukwe Nnawuchi, SAN
– Alternate Chairman: Dennis Okwakpam
– Secretary: Amaka Ezeno
North Committee:
– Chairman: Abdul Atadoga, SAN
– Alternate Chairman: Murtala Aliyu Kankia
– Secretary: Mrs Oluronke Adeyemi
West Committee:
– Chairman: Ama Etuwewe, SAN
– Alternate Chairman: Dele Oloke
– Secretary: Olajumoke Catherine Ogunjebi
Additionally, an 11-member NBA Sections Elections Appeal Committee has been constituted, chaired by Ikeazor Ajovi Akaraiwe, SAN with Prof Augustine Agom as Alternate Chairman and Foluke Akinmoladun as Secretary.
The committees will be inaugurated on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 4:00pm via a virtual meeting. The NBA President thanked the committee members for their willingness to serve and called for the cooperation of all NBA members, particularly aspirants to various offices, to ensure smooth transitions in the branches and sections.
