Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mark Jacob, has welcomed the intervention of the party’s governors in the ongoing internal crisis but expressed concern that the core issues remain unresolved.

Jacob, speaking on Aries Television’s “NewsNight” program yesterday, noted that while the governors’ involvement is a positive step, the deeper problems, such as the indefinite tenure of Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, have not been addressed.

He said, “Yes, the governors have intervened, but the problems are still there. The party belongs to different people.”

Jacob criticized those disregarding the party’s constitution, stating, “Those who fail to adhere to the constitution of the party are the ones destroying it. It’s a shame.”

He also lamented the PDP’s inability to fulfill its role as Nigeria’s largest opposition party and proposed that the party’s funding should come from members, not individuals. “Let members contribute by paying their dues, so no single individual can claim ownership of the party,” Jacob suggested.

Meanwhile, the Yayari Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) has remained silent on the outcome of the truce brokered by the party governors. Efforts to reach both Yayari Mohammed and National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, were unsuccessful as their phone lines were unreachable, and responses to text messages were still awaited as of 9:00 p.m. last night.
