The Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has disclosed his administration’s groundbreaking policy approach termed the “Four Ds,” focusing on “Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora.” The new policy is designed to address complex global challenges and propel Nigeria to a prominent position on the international stage.

Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Tuggar affirmed his commitment to introducing a transformative foreign policy that positions Nigeria as a visionary and influential player in global decision-making. This announcement was made on his inaugural day in office following the oath of office taken alongside fellow ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Tuggar detailed that his “Four Ds” foreign policy strategy aims to tackle multifaceted issues through a lens of development, democracy, demography, and the diaspora. This innovative approach seeks to provide modern solutions to the dynamic challenges of the contemporary world.

The Minister assured the Nigerian diaspora community of his administration’s dedication to addressing their concerns. He stated, “It is the highest honour to be asked to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As a historically significant Ministry, Foreign Affairs has long represented the highest standard of excellence. It is, therefore, our job to ensure those standards will never fail.”

Reflecting on the current global landscape marked by political crises and economic insecurity, Tuggar emphasized the need for proactive efforts. He added, “We have a lot of work to do. In due time, we will unveil a new vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy, four D’s diplomacy. Through this doctrine centered on development, democracy, demography, and Diaspora, we hope to find modern solutions to address complex contemporary problems.”

Welcoming Tuggar as the new Minister, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adamu Lamuwa, expressed confidence in the Minister’s expertise and vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy. Lamuwa stated, “We are happy to have a leader who is not new to the field and understands everything about diplomacy and foreign policy. We should thank Allah and President Bola Tinubu for bringing him to us because we have been praying for a minister who would hit the ground running.”

Lamuwa affirmed the Ministry’s dedication to supporting Tuggar’s strategic initiatives and driving Nigeria’s foreign policy forward, noting, “We are here pledging our determination and support to move Nigeria’s foreign policy forward.”
