PAST NBA NATIONAL WELFARE SECRETARY, ADESINA ADEGBITE, CONDEMNS THE GRUESOME MURDER OF C. D. OMEKAGU-ODUMEH, ESQ., COMMISERATES WITH NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION ORLU BRANCH AND THE EASTERN BAR FORUM

What hit the Nigerian Bar Association yesterday could not be otherwise described than a double tragedy! We were still mourning the sad passage of the Chair of NBA Abuja Branch, Hauwa Shekarau, who passed on earlier in the morning, only to be confronted with another terrible news later in the evening, this time, the heinous murder of a very dynamic and vibrant young man, the Publicity Secretary of the NBA Orlu Branch, C. D. Omekagu-Odumeh Esq. He was allegedly shot dead by unknown gunmen yesterday, 15th September, 2021.

I have had cause in the past to publish a written lamentation on the wanton killings of lawyers across Nigeria. Here’s another sad example. For how long shall we continue to dance around the plaque of insecurity in our country? As a living survival of gunmen attack myself, I cannot afford to spare the Government and the security agencies over the deplorable decline in the security architecture of the country and the consequential absence of security of lives and properties in Nigeria. Something drastic needs to be done about this dangerous decline before Nigeria gains prominence and notoriety for being an irredeemable failed State.

I join the Orlu Bar, the Eastern Bar Forum and the Nigerian Bar Association in mourning our deceased colleague who was cut down in his prime.

I pray that the Almighty God shall grant his family, friends, colleagues and well wishers, the fortitude to bear the very sad loss.

May your killers never know peace even as you Rest In Peace to the Glory of God.

ADIEU C. D. OMEKAGU-ODUMEH ESQ!

Adesina Adegbite, FICMC
Past National Welfare Secretary, NBA.
