A Florida woman has been left stunned after returning home to discover that her driveway had been ripped up and hauled away in what police believe was part of an alleged scam traced to internet addresses in Nigeria.

The victim, Luz Lenzi, said she never hired anyone to renovate or remove the driveway at her home in Sanford, Florida, located about 30 miles north of Orlando.
Lenzi reportedly returned to the property in February and found a pile of rubble where her driveway used to be.
“I didn’t hire them. I didn’t need to have my driveway redone,” Lenzi told News 6.
According to Sanford police, the incident began when an unidentified person, who allegedly claimed to be acting on behalf of a real estate company, contacted and hired a contractor to work on Lenzi’s driveway.
The contractor reportedly began removing the driveway but later stopped the job after a $15,000 check issued for the work bounced.
Police said the check was allegedly written by a company listed in New Mexico as SOIL Realty LLC. Investigators later traced records connected to the transaction to Nigeria.
Authorities said the contractor did not meet the supposed client in person and also failed to obtain a permit before beginning the work on the property.
Investigators said they were able to trace the alleged scheme by reviewing bank transactions and Google records linked to an email address used in arranging the job. The records reportedly led police to internet addresses in Nigeria.
“I said, Nigeria, like in Africa? And he said, yes,” Lenzi recalled. “I said, how? I was shocked.”
Sanford police believe Lenzi may not have been the primary target of the alleged scam. Investigators suspect the scheme may have been designed to defraud the contractor who carried out the work, although they said it remains unclear how the alleged scammer intended to profit from the incident.
Police also believe Lenzi’s home may have been selected because the property had been listed for sale.
Lenzi said she first learned something was wrong when a colleague called to inform her that there was “a mountain” in front of her house and that the driveway was gone.
“I was the loser in the whole thing,” she said.
According to News 6, the contractor initially refused to pay for repairs, arguing that the company had also been victimized by the alleged scam. Lenzi later said the contractor agreed to reimburse her for the cost of fixing the driveway.
The Sanford Police Department said the case remains under investigation.
