A fire broke out on Wednesday night at the students’ hostel of the Nigerian Law School Kano Campus, leaving students with significant losses.
The fire razed the hostel building to the ground and destroyed students’ valuable properties, including clothes, credentials, and electronic gadgets such as laptops.
Students and staff were evacuated from the premises, and no casualties were reported. However, the fire has caused distress among many students, with some losing critical equipment for their study just 14 days before their final bar examination.
The Nigerian Law School Muslim Students-Kano Campus published a statement following the incident, confirming the magnitude of the damage. The students’ group stated that the fire outbreak left the affected students with nothing but the clothes they were wearing at the time.
In a video acquired, students were seen struggling to extinguish the fire in the absence of fire service operatives. “I’ve never seen a fire service truck here in law school,” one of the students said.
The management of Nigerian Law School has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The law school incident came a day after it was reported that at least 17 pupils of an Almajiri school had lost their lives in a devastating fire that engulfed their school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State.
