The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA Nigeria, is set to inaugurate its newest branch in Ahoada, Rivers State, as part of efforts to deepen access to justice and strengthen the protection of women and children across communities in the state.

The inauguration of the FIDA Ahoada Branch is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the High Court Premises, Ahoada, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The ceremony will commence at 10:00 a.m.

FIDA Nigeria said the establishment of the new branch represents an expansion of its advocacy, protection and empowerment activities to Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua/Odual and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.

Announcing the inauguration under the theme, “A New Chapter. A Bold Beginning. A Greater Reach for Justice,” the organisation said the branch would further its commitment to ensuring that women and children enjoy dignity, security and freedom from abuse and injustice.

“The wait is finally over, and with hearts filled with gratitude and excitement, FIDA Nigeria is delighted to announce the inauguration of its newest branch, FIDA Ahoada Branch,” the organisation stated.

According to FIDA Nigeria, the Ahoada Branch was established to extend its mission and deepen access to justice for women and children within the four local government areas covered by the branch.

It described the inauguration as more than a ceremonial event, saying it represents a renewed commitment to service, advocacy and justice.

“This inauguration is more than a ceremony. It is a celebration of purpose, service and renewed commitment, a reaffirmation that every woman and every child deserves to live with dignity, security and freedom from abuse and injustice,” FIDA said.

The organisation has invited members of the Bar and Bench, traditional rulers, government officials, civil society organisations, women’s groups, youth organisations, community leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to participate in the inauguration.

FIDA said the establishment of the branch would strengthen its capacity to provide advocacy and support within communities in the Ahoada axis and neighbouring local government areas.

The inauguration committee is chaired by Hon. Ukel Akeodi-Oyaghiri, while Rosemary Nwugo serves as Secretary of the committee.

The event is expected to formally establish FIDA’s institutional presence in the area and provide a platform for increased engagement on issues affecting women and children, including access to justice, protection from abuse and rights advocacy.

FIDA Nigeria said the new branch would operate in line with the organisation’s longstanding objective of “promoting, protecting and preserving the rights of women and children.”

“Come celebrate with us as we mark the beginning of a new journey, one founded on courage, compassion, advocacy and an unwavering commitment to justice,” the organisation stated.

“FIDA Ahoada is ready to serve. The journey begins here.”
