The Federal Government has revealed that it received 405 nominations for the Special Awards recognising Nigerians who have achieved significant feats across the country.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this during the official launch of the book, Discovery Nigeria, which was held to commemorate the Nigeria at 60 independence anniversaries.

The book launch was part of ceremonies to mark Nigeria’s 60 years of Independence with the theme, ‘Celebrating the Buhari Revolution.’

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had on September 16, 2020 declared that the celebration of the anniversary should be observed for a whole year, ending on September 30, 2021.

In his address, Mustapha, revealed that the Award, tagged, ‘Nigerian Special Awards for Achievements and Recognition of Patriotic Nigerians’, was aimed at celebrating those who have added value to national development within the country and beyond.

He noted that the nomination process was completely based the nation’s choice of which, 60 people emerged significant winners.

According to him, the awards are in ten categories.

They are Services to Arts; Business; Community; Education; Healthcare; Industry; International Achievement; Entertainment; Sports and Life Time award

Regarding the book launch, the SGF said, “The book ‘Discover Nigeria’ will be unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari, and it chronicles various aspects of our country that some of us may not even be aware of.

“It will also show the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last six years”.

Mustapha, however, charged Nigerians to “spend more time celebrating ourselves irrespective of the circumstances because of the outstanding achievement.

“This is why a special award was made to recognize deserving Nigerians for their contribution to the development of the economy.”
