The Federal Government has directed the immediate closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges across the country following rising security threats in several states.

The directive was issued by the Federal Ministry of Education through a circular dated 21 Nov. 2025 signed by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of the Senior Secondary Education Department, on behalf of the Minister of Education

According to the circular, the decision followed “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.” Principals of all affected schools were instructed to enforce the shutdown without delay.

“The Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges with immediate effect,” the circular stated, adding that strict compliance is expected from school heads.

The Ministry assured parents and guardians of the government’s commitment to safeguarding students and staff while security agencies work to stabilise the affected regions.
