The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released images of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
The images, shared on Thursday via the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office on X.com, show the individual wearing a cap, dark sunglasses, a long-sleeved shirt, and jeans. Authorities urged anyone with photos, video footage, or other relevant information to contact the FBI, emphasizing that investigators are “doing everything we can to find him,” though his whereabouts remain uncertain.
Kirk, 31, co-founder and head of the largest conservative youth movement in the U.S., was shot dead on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The activist, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, was addressing a large audience when a shot rang out, according to former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was present. Kirk’s death has sparked fears of escalating political violence in the United States. The event at which he was killed was the first of roughly 15 scheduled nationwide engagements through October.
In response to online posts glorifying Kirk’s killing, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau threatened to revoke visas for foreigners found celebrating the attack. “In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” Landau wrote on X. He encouraged social media users to flag posts and promised consular action against those violating the warning.
The Trump administration has increasingly used visa revocations as part of a broader crackdown on immigration and online threats. As of mid-August, the State Department had rescinded 6,000 student visas, mostly for legal violations including overstays or minor criminal offenses. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also directed consular officers to prioritize revoking visas of individuals deemed to have acted against U.S. interests, including those involved in campus protests against Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Applicants are now required to keep social media profiles open for vetting.
