The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in the South-West, Karounwi Oladapo, on Tuesday, lampooned the Peoples Democratic Party in the zone for faulting the creation of 19 local council development authorities by Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Oladapo said that the criticism showed that the opposition party was ignorant of the fact that councils and LCDA headquarters “are growth centres where development spreads to the other towns and communities under them”.

The APC zonal publicity secretary, spoke in a statement titled, ‘Creation of LCDAs in Ekiti: Pardon the ignorance of the South West PDP’, where he reacted to a statement by the South-West PDP that the LCDA creation in Ekiti State was a misplaced priority and an attempt to siphon the state resources.

Oladapo said, “The PDP should be reminded about the incalculable and incurable damage it has done to Ekiti State by scrapping the previous LCDAs that have been created by the successive progressive governments in Ekiti State. The PDP has long arrested the grassroots development in Ekiti State out of mischief and ignorance.

“The government of Alliance for Democracy, under the leadership of Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo was about the same time with the AD government of Lagos State started the process of creation of additional local governments.

“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu created additional 37 LCDAs to complement the existing 20 local governments in Lagos, making 57. The 57 are still subsisting and robustly too, till today. This singular act has impacted positively on the grassroots development in Lagos.

“Creating additional LCDAs in Ekiti will stimulate more development and engender increment in the internally generated revenues to the LCDAs; meaning more money will be available than hitherto. It will automatically lead to the elevation of some existing local government workers.”
