Hassan Mijinyawa, an alleged fake lawyer, was on Friday arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Bauchi, over charges bordering on impersonation, forgery, and the unlawful use of a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stamp and seal.

The criminal case, CMCBH/139/2026, followed a petition by a legal practitioner, Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq., who accused the defendant, a non-lawyer, of falsely presenting himself as a legal practitioner and unlawfully using his NBA stamp and seal.

At Friday’s sitting, Hassan Mijinyawa was formally arraigned before the court. The prosecution presented the FIR, while the nominal complainant, Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq., appeared in court to watch brief for himself. The defendant, through his counsel, applied for bail.

After listening to submissions from both parties, the presiding Magistrate, His Worship Adam Isma’il, adjourned the matter to February 6, 2026, for ruling on the bail application. The defendant was remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Bauchi, pending the court’s decision..

Meanwhile, Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq., has written to the Bauchi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, requesting the takeover of the prosecution pursuant to the powers conferred under Section 211 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Recall that Hassan Mijinyawa, also known as “Barrister Hassan Mijinyawa,” was earlier arrested by the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force following a petition dated January 20, 2026, authored by Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq.

In the petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Jibril alleged that the suspect falsely represented himself as a legal practitioner and unlawfully used his name, identity, and NBA stamp and seal without consent or authority.

According to the petition, the suspect allegedly affixed the NBA stamp and seal on legal documents, issued forged processes, and represented himself to members of the public and institutions as a qualified legal practitioner.

Jibril stated that the acts amounted to serious criminal offences, including impersonation, forgery, obtaining by false pretence, and personation, contrary to the Penal Code Laws of Bauchi State 2022 and other relevant laws.

Preliminary police investigations reportedly revealed that the suspect issued and used forged legal documents, misleading members of the public under the false pretense of being a lawyer. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

The petition was copied to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chairman of the NBA Bauchi Branch, and the Bauchi State Attorney General to ensure regulatory oversight.

Jibril also warned members of the public, corporate bodies, courts, government agencies, and financial institutions to disregard any document or transaction emanating from the suspect, describing them as null, void, and of no legal effect.

The Bauchi State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that justice will be served, while measures will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The matter comes up again on February 6, 2026, for ruling on the bail application at the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Bauchi.
