The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law in the ongoing Erisco Tomato matter, emphasizing the effectiveness and potency of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015.

The case, which involves Mrs. Chioma, has garnered significant attention, with the police conducting preliminary investigations that have revealed compelling evidence suggesting her alleged role in violating extant laws related to the proper use of cyberspace.

In a statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the police cautioned members of the public against spreading misinformation and attempting to manipulate public sentiment. The statement underscored the impartiality of the law and warned that any attempt to subvert it would be met with the full force of legal action.

The police expressed deep concern over recent developments in the case, particularly the use of crowdfunding as a means to influence legal proceedings. Such actions, according to the statement, undermine the integrity of the justice system and threaten the principles of fairness and accountability, which are crucial to the existence of the rule of law.

The Erisco Tomato matter highlights the necessity of enforcing existing legislation, including the Cybercrime Act, to counteract the current spate of violations and the spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media. The Nigeria Police reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing all laws without fear, favor, or sentiments, ensuring justice and transparency for all citizens.

The police advised the suspect, Mrs. Chioma, to cease continually jumping bail and appear in court, allowing the neutral arbiter to determine the matter and letting justice take its course. The statement also admonished Nigerians, especially social media influencers, to embrace the rule of law and shun displays of sentiment in this case and others, as the police will not be deterred by the antics of certain individuals attempting to pervert justice.
