The Enugu State Police Command has clarified that the country home of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba, in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area, was not attacked, dismissing viral social media claims suggesting an attempt to kidnap his parents or relatives.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, explained that on September 18, 2025, at around 8 p.m., police operatives on routine patrol in the Ezimo community responded to a distress call and successfully repelled an armed robbery attack.
“Sadly, a police officer who sustained gunshot injuries during the ensuing shootout later died in the hospital, where his death was confirmed by the attending doctor,” Ndukwe stated.
He added that one male suspect has been arrested and is assisting police in the ongoing investigation and manhunt for the other fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, commended operatives for their swift action and urged them to sustain the momentum in apprehending the remaining suspects. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling isolated incidents of violent crime in Enugu State.
