His appointment followed the resignation of former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
It takes immediate effect.
Adeyeye’s resignation came on the heels of the endorsement of the state deputy governor, Olusola Eleka as the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for next year’s governorship election.
The state government accepted the resignation. According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the government, Dr (Mrs) Modupe Alade, the government thanked Adeyeye for his contributions to the university and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Consequently, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose approved the appointment of Adesina (SAN) as the new chairman of the university governing council.
Adesina hails from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government.
A seasoned lawyer, Adesina has served the Nigerian Bar Association in various capacities such as Chairman, Ikeja Branch, and General Secretary. He was a former member of the Governing Council of the Covenant University, a private institution belonging to the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), where he is a pastor.
With this appointment, Adesina joins a select group of lawyers that have been appointed to contribute to the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.
The list includes Chief Afe Babalola SAN (former Pro Chancellor, University of Lagos), Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN (former Pro Chancellor, University of Ibadan), Prince Lateef Fagbemi (Chairman Governing Council, Yaba College of Technology), and a host of others.
Responding to his appointment, Adesina who is currently on vacation outside Nigeria promised to serve EKSU, Ekiti, and Nigeria to the best of his ability.
“I see this appointment as a call to service in the interest of the people. I am humbled and I can only promise to bring my best to bear on the development of the university,” he said.]]>
