The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin have arrested Osagie Destiny Etinosa for allegedly defrauding a footballer of N11 million after promising to secure trials for his victim at foreign clubs.

In a statement on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said the suspect parades himself as a football agent on Instagram, claiming he “specialises in linking footballers with foreign clubs for trials and recruitment”.

EFCC added that Etinosa’s arrest was done “through an open source intelligence”.

The commission said the suspect allegedly duped Samuel Beke Ohazuruike of N11 million with the promise of securing trials for him in Romanian and Bulgarian clubs, which never materialised, adding that “efforts by the victim to recover his money proved abortive”.

EFCC said the suspect will be arraigned before a court soon.

In Borno, EFCC also apprehended Fatima Muhammed for an alleged mutilation of Naira notes.

The commission added that the suspect’s arrest followed a viral TikTok video in which she “was seen cleaning mucus from her nose using an N500 Naira note”.

“Following the release of the video, operatives of the Commission traced and arrested her in the Maiduguri metropolis area,” the statement reads.

“The suspect is currently under investigation at the Maiduguri detention facility, while the investigation is ongoing.”
