*Vows Strict Enforcement Of Campaign Rules

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has issued detailed guidelines for the 2024 elections of NBA National Officers and Representatives to the General Council of the Bar.

The elections will take place electronically on July 20, 2024.

Key aspects of the guidelines include:

– The campaign period will run from June 10 to July 18, 2024. Candidates are prohibited from any campaigning on July 19, the day before the election.

– Campaigns must be professional, civil and focus on issues related to advancing the bar, legal profession and justice. Personal attacks, ethnic/religious content, political style rallies, and financial inducements to voters are prohibited.

– Candidates found to have violated campaign rules, such as being sponsored by government/corporate entities, vilifying other candidates in media, or offering financial incentives to voters, may be disqualified.

– To be eligible to vote, NBA members must belong to a branch and have paid practicing fees between January 1 and March 31, 2024. The voter list is available for members to verify their information.

– The elections will utilize the Election Buddy electronic voting platform, which will undergo vulnerability and penetration testing to ensure integrity and security.

– Election results will be announced within 24 hours of the July 20 voting, after votes are collated and verified in the presence of candidates or their representatives.

The ECNBA emphasized it will work to ensure strict compliance with the NBA constitution and election guidelines in order to uphold the credibility of the association’s electoral process.
