There was tension at the entrance of the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Tuesday as security operatives barred suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from gaining access to the premises.

The senator, who was recently suspended for six months by the Senate, had vowed to resume legislative duties following a court ruling ordering her recall. She arrived at the National Assembly gate flanked by prominent activists, including Aisha Yesufu, rights advocate Mama P, and activist Randy, along with a crowd of supporters.

Despite presenting herself peacefully, security officials denied her access. Aisha Yesufu confronted the officers at the gate, questioning the legality of the order.

“National Assembly is meant to be for everyone. Why are you stopping us? We are not abiding doesn’t mean we are cowards,” she stated.

The situation escalated when some of Natasha’s supporters began chanting “Push!” and attempted to breach the security barricade.

Senator Natasha, who remained inside a black vehicle during the confrontation, was stopped alongside the car in front of hers, which carried Aisha Yesufu. Her supporters marched toward the complex, singing solidarity songs and demanding her reinstatement.

The standoff highlighted growing tensions over the Senate’s refusal to obey a court verdict directing her reinstatement, raising fresh questions about legislative accountability and the rule of law in Nigeria.
