Dr. Cynthia C. Umezulike, Ph.D., a distinguished International Human Rights Lawyer, Associate Professor, and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development, Energy Transitions, and Climate Change at the University of Bedfordshire, UK, has been elected Vice Chair of the United Kingdom Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA).
The election took place during the HRLA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 18, 2025, held at the global law firm Hogan Lovells in London.
Dr. Umezulike’s election to this prestigious role underscores her exceptional contributions to human rights law and her commitment to advancing justice and equity. With a career spanning academia, legal practice, and advocacy, she brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to the HRLA, an organization with over 3,000 members, including solicitors, barristers, advocates, judges, government lawyers, legal academics, in-house counsel, legal executives, trainees, and law students.
The HRLA is a dynamic legal community dedicated to promoting and advancing human rights law in the United Kingdom and beyond. The association fosters collaboration among legal professionals, advocates for policy reforms, and provides a platform for thought leadership and professional development in the field of human rights.

As Vice Chair, Dr. Umezulike will work closely with the HRLA’s Executive Committee and members to deepen engagement with human rights law and address its evolving challenges. Her key responsibilities will include:
