The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Law Class of 2011 has condemned in strong terms the brutal assassination of its member, Ifeanyi Iloakasia, describing the act as a direct assault on the legal profession and the Nigerian justice system.

In a statement on Friday signed by Dr. Chinedu Obasi, Chairman of the class, made available to Punch, the group expressed profound grief and outrage over the cold-blooded killing of Iloakasia, a respected legal practitioner, devoted family man, and community leader.

Preliminary investigations by the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Police indicate that Iloakasia was deliberately targeted.

According to media reports, he had just concluded a court session at the High Court of Anambra State in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, when he was followed and ambushed at Egbebelu village in Nanka, Orumba North LGA.

He and his client were both shot dead by unidentified gunmen on May 15, 2025.

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, condemned the killing of the President General of the Aguleri community, vowing to apprehend the killers.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable, disgraceful, and barbaric,” the NAU Law Class of 2011 called for an “immediate and unrelenting national response” to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The group urged the Inspector General of Police and all relevant security agencies to expand on the work of the state command by swiftly arresting and prosecuting those responsible for what they termed an “evil act.”

“This horrific murder is not only a personal loss but a blatant assault on the legal profession and the very foundation of justice in Nigeria,” the statement read.

While the motive for the killing remains unclear, the class insisted that justice must be “swift, complete, and uncompromising.”

The NAU Law Class extended condolences to Iloakasia’s wife, children, and extended family, urging authorities to ensure that no lawyer or citizen suffers a similar fate.

“The NAU Law Class of 2011 stands united in grief, righteous anger, and unwavering call for justice,” the statement concluded.
