A press release signed by the branch’s publicity secretary, Yusuf AbdulSalam, indicated that Naziru is no longer eligible to practice in Nigeria as a barrister or solicitor, having been de-robbed by the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Council (LPDC) last week, following series of petitions against him by members of the public who have had dealings with him. Mr. Yusuf said it is necessary to inform the public that Naziru, who had all along practiced in Kano and Jigawa as a lawyer, can no longer do so, and that dealing with him in that capacity may lead to unfathomable loss. “Naziru was a wrong example of what legal practitioners represent, and as a responsible and responsive body, the NBA will continue to engage in self-cleansing to purge the association of rotten elements.” According to the release, Naziru’s case began when he took a client’s money and refused to utilise it fully for what it was meant. The client brought the matter to the NBA which intervened and ordered him to return the money, an order he refused to comply with. The Kano branch had no option than to forward the matter to the national body which proceeded according to law to hear and deliberate on the matter, resulting in his removal from the roll of legal practitioners in Nigeria. But, that particular case “was in fact the least among many of Naziru’s misconducts, except that the petitioner was ready to pursue it to the logical conclusion. There are far worse cases against him that are still pending.” The release urged the general public to also participate actively in NBA’s war against corruption by lodging their complaints against any member with the association. “It does not take much and it does not cost a kobo. Just write your complaint or petition and bring or send it to the NBA secretariat at Guda Abdullahi Road, Farm Center, Kano. “There is also a provision for lodging complaints on our website at www.kanonba.org. It is so easy and user friendly. Go ahead and provide us with sufficient information, and we assure the public that we shall follow up. Very soon, our dedicated whistle-blowing phone line would also be ready.” ]]>
