As NUC Directs Universities To Remain Closed
The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked the rumor that schools shall resume on the 1st of June, 2020.
The Ministry in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Sunny S.T. Echono, made it clear to stakeholders that all Chief executives that the news is fake.
In another letter signed by the National University Commission’s Director, Directorate of the Executive Secretary’s Office, Chris J. Maiyaki, dated the 8th day of May, 2020, and made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), the Commission informed all Vice-Chancellors, that “all schools shall remain closed” as the Federal Government is closely monitoring developments on the containment of Covid-19. Vice-Chancellors are to ignore the “fake news” being circulated in the social media, as the situation is under constant review and any decision would be conveyed through the appropriate channels.
The letter by the Federal Ministry of Education was made reference to by the National University Commission, in that the Ministry first made available the circular dated the same day with reference number FME/PWE/HE/1041/C.1/VOL.1/138. The letter cited, the NUC has therefore forwarded a copy of the circular from the Ministry to all Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
All institutions are expected to be notified of the development.
