Kano State Government has exempted the state judiciary staff from its sit at home directive, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, on Wednesday.

It said that the exemption was in view of the need for the continued administration of justice in the state.

“Court proceedings and other legal matters would not grind to a halt across the justice system.

“All courts will continue to serve justice in the society, while lawyers and law firms will continue to provide services for their clients,” the statement said.

It said that in line with public health advice, the state Task Force on COVID-19 had asked all judicial staff to obey laid down protocols to the letter in the interest of public safety.

Recall that the state government had on Tuesday directed all civil servants to stay at home until further notice, following the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The state government also imposed a fresh ban on the activities of viewing and event centres across the state.

It had, however, explained that workers on essential services such as healthcare service providers, fire service, water board, teaching staff, security guards and the media were exempted from the order.

The government said it was committed to working with relevant stakeholders, including Islamic scholars and traditional rulers, to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 Protocols. NAN
