The Chief Judge of Ekiti State has ordered that only urgent criminal matters would be heard before High Courts in the state for now while fresh ones and custody cases would be heard by Magistrates.
This information is contained in a Notice dated 20th of March, 2020, signed by the Chief Registrar, J. A. Apuabi and made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL).
The Notice reads:
“Following the Ekiti state government directive banning all high-density gatherings in the same place to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID 19), the Honourable Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon Justice Ayodeji Daramola, has directed that only urgent criminal matters will be attended to in all the high courts in Ekiti state while only fresh criminal (overnight) cases and custody cases will be attended to in all the magistrate courts henceforth until further notice.
“In all cases, only direct parties to the matters for the hearing will be allowed into the court premises during the period of hearing.”
