Ghanaian content creator and self-acclaimed prophet Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, has been remanded into police custody for two weeks following his appearance at the Adenta District Court. The court has also mandated a psychiatric evaluation at Pantang Psychiatric Hospital before his next court date, amid charges of spreading false information that caused widespread fear and panic.

Eshun, 35, was arrested on December 31, 2025, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team after his viral doomsday prophecy failed to materialize. He had claimed in social media videos that God revealed to him a catastrophic global flood would submerge the world on December 25, 2025 Christmas Day. To prepare, Eshun constructed a makeshift “ark” at his residence in Accra, positioning it as a safe haven for believers. The prophecy drew followers from across Ghana and neighboring countries, many of whom abandoned their homes, packed luggage, and gathered at his compound in anticipation of the apocalypse.

When the predicted flood did not occur, Eshun posted a follow-up video asserting that his intense prayers and fasting had convinced God to postpone the destruction. He even made a surprise appearance at rapper Sarkodie’s high-profile ‘Rapperholic 2025’ concert, where he urged the crowd to celebrate the “delayed doom,” further fueling public outrage and online backlash.

During Thursday’s court session, presided over by Judge [Name not specified in reports], prosecutors argued that Eshun’s actions violated Ghana’s laws on false communication under the Criminal Offences Act, as they incited unnecessary fear, disrupted social order, and potentially endangered lives during the festive season. The defense requested bail, citing Eshun’s role as a family man and content creator, but the court denied it, opting instead for remand to allow time for the psychiatric assessment. Eshun is scheduled to reappear on January 15, 2026, after the evaluation results are submitted.

The Ghana Police Service had previously issued warnings against such panic-inducing declarations, especially during holidays when public anxiety is heightened. “This arrest underscores our commitment to combating misinformation that threatens public peace,” a police spokesperson stated in a press release following the apprehension.

Eshun’s case has ignited debates on the boundaries of free speech, religious freedom, and the responsibility of social media influencers. Critics argue his prophecy exploited vulnerable believers, leading to economic losses for those who left jobs or homes. Supporters, however, view it as a harmless expression of faith, though few have publicly defended him post-arrest.

This is not Eshun’s first brush with controversy; he has built a following of over 100,000 on platforms like TikTok and Instagram through dramatic prophecies and motivational content.
