The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the demotion of two judiciary staff members over acts of forgery and absenteeism, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within the judicial system.

The disciplinary actions were taken during the Commission’s 84th meeting held on Friday, according to a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo-Ibrahim.

In the statement, the JSC announced the demotion of Adamu Salisu, a Registrar at the High Court No. 13, for forgery and falsification of affidavits of service. He was found to have forged the signature of a court bailiff and unlawfully signed documents in the capacity of a Commissioner for Oaths.

“He admitted guilt and was found liable for gross misconduct,” the statement read.

As part of the disciplinary measures, Salisu was demoted from Grade Level 13 to Grade Level 12 and removed from his position as Registrar in charge of High Court No. 13. He was also issued a strong warning to desist from further unethical practices or risk harsher penalties, including criminal prosecution.

In a separate case, the Commission also sanctioned Yusuf Ayuba, a Clerical Assistant attached to High Court No. 8, Miller Road, for abandoning his duty post without justification for four months.

The Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) investigated Ayuba and found him liable for gross misconduct. As a result, he was demoted from Grade Level 5 to Grade Level 4.

Jibo-Ibrahim emphasized that the actions were in line with the Commission’s statutory mandate to uphold discipline, accountability, and ethical standards in the judiciary.

“The sanctions are intended to serve as a deterrent to other staff and curb absenteeism within the judiciary,” he said.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the judicial system and ensuring professionalism across all cadres of the judiciary in Kano State.

The Commission reiterates its non-tolerance policy on misconduct and reaffirms its commitment to enforcing discipline, accountability, and professional ethics,” the statement added.
